Keep the listing and the box

Save the exact model, specification and purchase terms before the listing changes. Check the seller's stated return conditions and any relevant deadlines for your transaction. This guide is a practical testing plan, not a statement of legal entitlements; consult current official consumer guidance when you need to establish your rights.

Open the package carefully and keep accessories together. Photograph visible damage if necessary, without publishing serial numbers or account details. Compare what arrived with the order, including power supplies, adapters and cables that were supposed to be included.

Test the reason you bought it

Write a short list of the tasks the device must handle. For a monitor, that might mean your laptop at a particular resolution, charging and waking from sleep. For a printer, it might mean a two-sided document and a scan from the household computer. A successful power-on is only the beginning.

Use the intended connection and location. Testing a wireless device beside the router does not establish that it will work in the room where you plan to install it. Try normal conditions before permanent mounting or extensive personalisation makes a return more complicated.

Check a second ordinary session

Disconnect and reconnect in the way daily life requires. Let the computer sleep, switch inputs, charge the battery or restart the app as appropriate. Some problems only appear after the first setup screen has been completed.

Change one thing at a time if something fails. Compare with a known working cable or direct connection where supported, and keep brief notes. Avoid spending the entire decision period on increasingly elaborate workarounds for a basic advertised function.

Decide with the evidence in front of you

If the product works, record the successful port, setting or accessory combination and keep necessary documentation. If it does not match the listing or your requirements, contact the seller through its official process with a clear description and the test results.

Before returning equipment, follow the supported procedure to remove personal accounts and data. Do not assume packing it back into the box removes an account connection. Keep proof of the return as required by the seller's process. A prompt, focused test gives you a clearer decision than discovering a basic incompatibility after the packaging has disappeared.
